Women, abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy is not health care. The liberal left want to use us to promote their agenda by pretending that an invasive procedure within our bodies after it has been housing and incubating a baby for 140 days is somehow an act against us. Allow me to say up front that I think some abortion is scientifically and medically justified but that is not the story for today. Today, as a female doctor, I need women to take a deep breath, stand back and consider what they are doing to you; maybe it is even worse than the Republicans who say you should simply stick an aspirin tablet between your thighs. There are many levels of error in wanting to promote abortion after 20 weeks and totally ignoring the woman whose body we are arguing about. Female foolishness is the first level. Even before you had cutting edge technology to confirm your pregnancy, a girl can usually tell that she is pregnant within 6 weeks of fertilization of the egg and approximately 2 weeks after she misses her period. And we are talking of a young, inexperienced teenager; the more mature woman knows even earlier than that. The reason they can tell is because of the definite physiological changes that take place within them, physiological changes that you cannot ignore. Her blood volume begins to expand, her blood vessels become more elastic, which is the reason her breasts begin to engorge and why she will bleed faster and more freely each time her body is invaded by any form of surgery. Next, you have your hormones that are going absolutely crazy as they try to adjust to accommodate this new guest; it is not for nothing that pregnant women have the blues, so bad that even after a normal delivery, post-partum psychosis is a well-documented syndrome. 

Without turning this into a discourse on the physiology of pregnancy, suffice it to say that a girl knows that she is pregnant at least 98 days before the pregnancy is 20 weeks old. My question and you do not need to provide an answer is this, “what was she doing with her decision to have an abortion in all that time?“ and the reason I don’t require an answer is that we all know the answer - Female foolishness. She is probably mooning and hoping that her boyfriend would come to his senses and they can then celebrate a shot gun wedding, thinking all the time about that wedding that she believes she deserves and not giving a thought to the child who would be born into a loveless marriage. The second reason is that all of us have been foolish at one time or another and we can therefore forgive her for her foolishness. But what the liberal left has ignored and what they do not want women to be aware of, is that by 20 weeks, an abortion is not without risks to the woman, even when performed under the best of conditions. That is because of those physiological changes to which we alluded earlier. There is no way you will have an expanded vascular system and not put yourself at risk with every surgical procedure which is why dentists would hesitate to perform too many dental procedures during pregnancy late pregnancy, which is what a 20 week pregnancy represents. Now, if after women have considered all the risks involved in late-term abortion and still allow the liberal left to hijack the argument, at least we will know that they have thought it through. Granted, there may be a deliberate war on women and their access to healthcare, a war that is being prosecuted through various strategies, but I submit that this particular ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy is not one of those strategies.
